The Jesuit Henri Griffet (1698-1771) taught fine arts at the Louis-le-Grand college and was a confessor at the Bastille, then preacher to the king. He retired to Brussels when his order was banned in France. Important biography of Louis XIII, and the only one without doubt of importance after that of Michel de Vassor, but this one is full of digressions and written in part on the Memoirs of Pontis. Complete set in three volumes, containing drop caps and a large band engraved at the head of each of the volumes. Very good copy. Brunet VI. Quérard, III-474
