In-folio, front., T.,  f., Folded map of Africa, 534 p. (with num. error), 42 pl. interspersed,  f., brown calfskin, ornate ribbed spine (binding restored).
First French edition. Illustrated copy with a frontispiece title, a large map of Africa which is often missing, 42 double-page plates which are maps or views, and 55 engravings in the text.
Professional restorations on the outside and inside of the book, the cards have been washed and reassembled on a tab.
Provenance: Michel Bégon de la Picardière (1667-1747), intendant of New France, attested by his emblazoned ex-libris and engraved at the date of 1702 by Daudin, glued to the reverse of the plate. Then from the library of Agnelot de Villiers attested by its ex-libris emblazoned on the back of the dish.
The two plates relating to Fort-Orange and Fort-Nassau on the island of Gorée, which were missing, were found and have not been reassembled.
