Map of Lower Saxony - Circulus Saxoniae inferioris - original map in 18th century color

Before 1649 Frederik de Wit was already engraving maps of Lille and Tournai for the illustration of Flandria Illustrata (en) by Antonius Sanderus. The first map engraved and dated by de Wit was the map of Denmark in 1659. Around 1660 appeared the Nova Orbis Tabula in Lucem Edita (+/- 46 x 55 cm) and Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Tabula, an assembled wall map. approximately 140 x 190 cm. The atlases began to appear around 1670

In 1698 he also published the Atlas of the Cities of the Netherlands. He knew two editions. For the realization of these atlases, Frederick de Wit had used his own engravings, but also the engraved copper plates he had bought from Willem Blaeu and Johannes Janssonius.

Frederik de Wit did the same thing for the Atlas of the Cities of Europe. For this work he even used copper plates from Civitates Orbis Terrarum by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg. These plates were also part of the Johannes Janssonius reserve, they were already 100 years old, but they were reworked.
