Sent by Colbert to Ethiopia, this German philologist (1637-1679), never went beyond Egypt in his travels. He stayed there for 20 months. Knowing Arabic, he was able to collect a lot of information from the population and other descriptions already made. If this is not the first relationship on Egypt, it is the first of a man residing long in the country; it is in any case one of the first, but the very first in this way (Shadenat I,714).
